MEMBER PROFILE
Name:
Robert De Wetter
Senior Pastor – Snowmass Chapel
Something about you that we really didn't know:
Have my Ph.D. in psychology and used to practice. Grew up loving and spending time with the Grateful Dead.
How long have you been a member at Aspen Crossfit?
Since late May 2011
What class time do you normally attend?
8 AM.
How did you find out about us?
A good friend of mine David Bork took me to lunch one day. After lunch he said, “Robert, you look like crap and I care about you. Come with me” David then brought me to meet Eric. The next day I was in the Elements Class. David believed in Crossfit so much he gave me a gift of the Elements class.
Tell us about your first workout and how you felt during/after:
The first thing that came to mind were the four words we aren’t supposed to use. I was sore and it took a few days to walk normally.
What benefits/accomplishments have you seen/ had since joining?
Ski season before last I had an open tib/fib fracture that required several surgeries, months of healing, and a lot of time in bed. Between the narcotics and many years under my belt of being an unfit skier, it was clear I was in the worst physical shape of my life. Cross fit is radically changing not only my body, my level of fitness, but my mind. Doing Crossfit affects how I see my life, my challenges, and my physical self. I have to say it also affects me spiritually. The program is life changing and transforming.
What are you future goals in the gym?
To continue. To stick with it. To overcome the voices in my head that sometimes work against me when I am doing a W.O.D. Sometimes I look at the W.O.D. on the board and feel a bit overwhelmed. Main goal is to become very fit for what that means for me.
My challenges:
Getting there four days a week. Sometimes it is three, but it has become a priority. Burpees are really tough. Double Under jump roping is nearly impossible. Frankly I trip on the rope while doing singles. Even though I have lived here for a while, I still get out of breath running.
My favorites:
Anything with weights, squats, and situps are great.
Favorite WOD/ workout when you are "thinkin' outside the box:"
Not sure I have a favorite. But if it includes burpees, it likely won’t be on the list.
Personal message to anyone that might be considering Crossfit:
Crossfit will change your life. We all have the freedom of making choices and Crossfit is one of the best choices we can make. Too many people don’t take responsibility for their own lives and getting into Crossfit is one big step of taking personal responsibility.
