A native of Atlanta, Jessica spent 25 years of her life deeply involved in dance of all forms, from ballet to contemporary. Through her completion of both the children’s and vocational tracks of the Royal Academy of Dance Examination Syllabus and later through undergraduate studies, dance has taken Jessica to the Royal Academy of Dance headquarters in London, England; summer programs in Italy; and further studies at the University of New South Wales and at the Sydney Dance Company studios in Australia. Upon graduating from Emory University with Highest Honors in Dance and Movement Studies, Jessica joined Staibdance, a professional contemporary dance company in Atlanta, with whom she performed both in the U.S and in Italy until 2011. She has also taught both teen and adult jazz and ballet at various dance studios in Atlanta.
Jessica’s first experience with Crossfit came at the suggestion of a fellow dancer in Atlanta who thought she’d enjoy the rigor and variation of the sport. Despite nearly throwing up during her first wod while running with sandbags in Atlanta’s infamous summer humidity, Jessica was hooked! She took a brief hiatus when she moved to NYC to pursue her Masters in Arts Administration from Columbia University, but, despite various attempts at group classes like spinning, boxing, and even Zumba, soon realized there was no substitute for Crossfit. She started back at the beginning with an elements class at Crossfit NYC, progressing to their competition programming, and later joining Brick NYC as a founding member. Through Brick, Jessica made her first baby steps into Crossfit competitions, competing in the scaled divisions of various NYC area events. A highlight was participating in Mayhem in the Meadowlands, a team competition held at Giants/Jets stadium, where her team came in third in their division.
When Jessica moved to Aspen to take on the role of Marketing Director for Aspen Santa Fe Ballet in August 2014, Aspen Crossfit was her first stop! She’s since fully adopted the Aspen lifestyle, enjoying skiing, skinning, hiking, and generally just being outdoors. With six years of Crossfit under her belt and some encouragement from Coach Erik, Jessica finally bit the bullet and took the Crossfit L1 Trainer course in January 2017. Having traded pointe shoes for barbells, Jessica is looking forward to sharing her enthusiasm for Crossfit with others!
